Don’t Stop Believing

My younger years were filled with Rock and Roll and television typical of Generation X-ers growing up in the 70’s. I know the after school cartoon line up by heart. Casper the Ghost at 3p.m. to late evening when “Taxi” comes on. Considered an “adult” show, people appearing to be adults in my household allowed me to sit on the floor and watch anyway.

I don’t remember liking watching T.V.. But as I was a child, what I wanted didn’t matter. Bugs Bunny seemed a clever wit. Like Mark Twain. Bugs Bunny made me think. That interested me.

At age of 16, I asked God who I believed must exist: What is real? There must be more than I can see happening behind the scenes.

At first, it seems God did not answer my question. Drinking, partying, I mocked and railed at my tragically flawed and painful existence. Like a character in Journey’s hit song.

When I hit rock bottom, I thought reality at last! It was Horrible. But I learned something real about my existence: I was terrified, powerless, and broken.

I don’t know what Steve Perry means when he sings: Don’t Stop Believing! Today at church, however, I discovered quite clearly that one day I will stand in front of the Son of God. And that He will be glad to see me.
